If you were to write a story
with me in the lead role,
it would certainly be a tragedy.

first days are always the hardest

notgonnaparrish:

James had waited for a quiet moment until he sauntered over to the sheriff’s office and knocked on the door lightly, only using two of his knuckles to hit them against the hard wood of the door’s frame. Over the course of the last years he had done that a fair amount of times, but never because of anything but work.
Today, he did it because for the first time when he would open that door his best friend would sit at the sheriff’s table and look back at him. There was no other reason than that he wanted to check up on John, who had looked pale in the morning of his first day as the new sheriff and who still looked pale now halfway through said day.

The door clicked behind him as he pushed it closed again and a bright smile grew on his face. He was proud of his friend and not jealous in the least. They had worked in the station for the exact same amount of time, but yet, he felt John would make a better sheriff than him.
In the end, there was a reason he was chosen and it didn’t matter that much anyway. They still worked together.
“Hey, Sheriff. How are you doing? Still a bit pale.” James walked over and sat down at the desk, opposite of his friend, taking the chair that was closer to the door.

Luckily, there hadn’t been any unusual emergencies this day. Yet. That was probably the worst thing that could happen the first day in.
Not that James didn’t think John would be able to handle that.

It has only been a few hours since he moved all his stuff to the sheriff’s office and became officially the new sheriff of Beacon Hills.Shouldn’t he be excited?Everyone would do anything for that position.Maybe he was excited but the fear and anxiety he felt didn’t allow him to experienece the excitement. What if he wasn’t ready for it? What if he screwed it up? Hundreds of what ifs were haunting him.Since there was no work that needed to be donw he was sitting in his new office with his hand in his hands trying to make all that anxiety go away. Not that he achieved much.

A knock on the door made him jump out of his thoughts. His eyes that were previously glued on the floor fixed on the door.He quickly sat up straight. He didn’t want anyone to see him like this.He had to pretend everything was fine.Although the fact that he has been pale all day wouldn’t help.He was about to crack a fake smile when he saw his best friend opening wouden door.He sighed in relief. He didn’t have to pretend around James.

James could read him like an open book, just like John could read him. They have been working together for a few years now and have built a strong relationship, that sometimes got a bit complicated for john, throughout all these years. In times when he was around James he has caught himself feeling something different. An attraction. But he’d never admit it,not to James, not even to himself. He shouldn’t feel that way. This could ruin everything.

When his friend called him sheriff he felt weird. He wasn’t used to it.It was something completely new to him.He gazed at his friend who was smiling at him. That had a soothing effect on him.The thin line on his features was replaced by a half smile.’‘How many more times are you going to call me that in a day, deputy?’

His smile fadded quickly. He put his hand on his face and rubbed his eyes.’'How do you think? I just..I don’t know James.Everything feels so strange and I..I am scared you know. What if I am not good enough?”
